Pastel Artist and Writer

About

michelle-portrait-tuI’ve heard it said that if you abandon the things you are passionate about as a child they will chase you down and find you again. Those passions can’t be held back … I know this to be true.

As I child and teenager I loved to draw and paint and was pretty good at it. But somehow this fell away over time and with the exception of an occasional drawing class, I rarely practiced it. But I’ve always been fueled by creativity, so I’ve spent years immersed in one thing or another … interior design, writing, sewing, jewelry making, even selling my line of handmade cards for many years. But in 2011 a dear friend introduced me to pastel painting, and there it was … my abandoned childhood passion for painting had found me and I was in love again. Since then I’ve worked constantly to develop my painting, enjoying every minute.

My writing equally defines me, and while I’m focusing on my painting considerably more these days, I still keep my hand in writing here and through a second blog, A Ripening Life; thoughts and insights about life we can all relate to. I also have a novel in me, and pieces of it find their way to the paper here and there, yearning to be told. Stay tuned!

I’ve traveled to France, Italy and New York to attend workshops with my favorite pastel artists, am an active member of the Austin Pastel Society, and have had my work accepted into various juried exhibitions.

I am a native Californian who became a Texas transplant in 1997. I currently live in Austin with my husband, two rascally dogs and we have a beautiful daughter who lives in New York City.
